Kasaragod, Jun 23: The police have intensified their efforts to trace the 23 people who allegedly celebrated Pakistan’s victory over India in the Champions Trophy cricket final last Sunday.

The Badiadukka police have filed cases on a complaint filed by BJP Kumbadaje panchayat committee president Rajesh Shetty.

The Vidyanagar Circle Inspector and Badiadukka station Sub-Inspector K.R. Ambadi were trying to trace the accused by tracking their mobile tower locations.

Mr. Shetty had claimed that three youths, identified as Masood, Sabir, and Razak, and 20 others burst crackers and raised slogans in support of the Pakistan cricket team at the remote Chekudal hamlet in Ubrangala village in Kumbadaje panchayat after watching live telecast of the match.

The police have registered cases under IPC Sections 286 (negligent conduct with respect to explosive substance) and 153 (promoting enmity on grounds of religions) on the complaint. No person has been arrested in connection with the incident so far.

“We will frame charges only after verifying the facts and cross-examining the eyewitnesses,” Mr. Ambadi said.
