Fish truck seized for sand smuggling

Mangaluru, Mar 25: The Ullal police on Friday night seized a containerised fish-transporting truck in which sand was allegedly being transported to Kerala.

A communiqué here said police inspector K.R. Gopikrishna and team seized the truck acting on a tip-off at Hoigehithlu near Talapady on the Karnataka-Kerala border. Plastic craters were placed at the end of the loaded sand to give an impression that fish was being transported, the police said.

The team also seized a tipper truck allegedly used to bring sand to the loading point.The value of seized material, including the two trucks and four units of sand, was Rs. 15 lakh.The items have been handed over to the Mines and Geology Department for further action.
