5 get 20 yrs in jail for kidnapping, raping sisters

Gurdaspur, Aug 20: A court here on Saturday sentenced five persons to 20 years in jail for kidnapping and raping two sisters in 2014.

Additional sessions court judge Ram Kumar Singla handed down the sentence and imposed a fine of Rs one lakh each on the suspects.

They would undergo an additional two-year sentence if they do not pay the fine.

The two girls, from Dala village in the district, went for a morning walk on March 10, 2014, when five youths in a car kidnapped them and took them to an unknown place where they were gang-raped.

The accused - Parveen Kumar, Mukesh Kumar, Lakhwinder Singh, Rinku and Rakesh Kumar, all residents of Gurdaspur -were arrested and a case under IPC sections 376, 363, 366 and 120 was registered against them.
