Kasaragod, Aug 21: The police late on Tuesday seized more than hundred litres of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) at Muliyar, near here, while being smuggled in a car into the State ahead of the Onam festivities. Two persons were arrested in connection with the incident.

A team of shadow police, deputed by the Superintendent of Police, seized 135 IMFL bottles of 750 ml capacity in 11 boxes concealed under the seat of a car and arrested Ansees, 27, hailing from Thrissur, and Naveen Shetti, 24, a resident of Kuloor Majjar, near Manjeshwaram.

Based on a tip-off that illicit liquor was being smuggled from Goa through porous Karnataka border roads, the police stepped up vigil, sources said. During a check, the police signalled a speeding car to stop. However, the vehicle sped away. The police gave a hot chase and intercepted the car near Muliyar and detained the occupants.
