Public meetings banned

January 5, 2017

Kasaragod, Jan 5: The police have banned demonstrations and public meetings by political and social organisations for three days in the district with effect from Wednesday.

The regulations, under provisions of the Kerala Police Act 78 and 79, have been enforced as per the orders of Superintendent of Police Thomson Jose in view of widespread violence reported during the day-long BJP district hartal on Tuesday.

The police are closely monitoring the law and order situation in the district and would take appropriate steps to restore peace in the politically and communally sensitive district.

Peace meet

Meanwhile, the District Collector convened an all-party peace meeting at the Collectorate in the afternoon to restore peace in the strife-torn areas.

The police regulations come in the light of the CPI(M) calling for demonstrations and public meeting to condemn the alleged BJP attack on the party.
