Tipu University being opposed by whom ?

The Sangh Parivar was waiting for this opportunity. A slew of objections have been raised from this very same fascist force ever since Union Minister Rehman Khan proposed the idea of setting up the Tipu Sultan University in Srirangapatna. The BJP and the Sangh Parivar did not have a face to go to people seeking votes this election. The dust of mining scam and land scams had settled on its face. Ministers who grew up in RSS ‘Shakhas’ turned out to be culprits. Almost 50% of the ministers in the state cabinet have criminal cases against them. The pseudo patriots had their tails down. But now, the Tipu University issue has come as a new weapon for them. One after the other, its members have began speaking in opposition to the University proposal.

tipu_sultanIt was Chidananda Murthy, onetime researcher who opened his mouth first. Now BJP spokesperson and MLC Gomadhusoodan has done the same by stating that the state government will not allow 2,000 acres of land to be occupied for the University. Minister Suresh Kumar has also stated that the government will ‘analyze’ as to whether University should be built or not. BJP’s minority face Anwar Manippady has not said a word yet. Dharwad MP Prahlad Joshi has joined the chorus.

As Governor H R Bhardwaj said, “Tipu Sultan is a great patriot, a national hero”. The people of Karnataka agree with him. No one is against Tipu Sultan accept a few who have been struck by the RSS disease.

The RSS fears patriots because it did not participate in the freedom struggle. The ‘chaddis’ instead acted as agents of the British. The RSS cannot stand people like Mahatma Gandhi, Bhagat Singh and Tipu Sultan, who fought against the British.

Had Tipu Sultan entered into a compromise with the British, he would not have to give away his sons as hostages to the British and die fighting on the battlefield. His descendents would not have been begging on the streets in Kolkata today either. But Tipu chose not to shake hands with the British. His contributions to this land are immense. To bring about land reforms two centuries ago is no mean achievement.

Refusing offerings from Palegars, Tipu distributed lands which were in their possession among landless farmers. He believed that the cultivator, no matter which caste or religion he belonged to, must be the true possessor of the farming land. 39,000 tanks were built in his time. In his brief tenure, 35% of the land came under the cover of Neravari. It was Tipu who took the initiative to set up the Kannambadi dam.

The experimental man that he was, Tipu would send his ambassadors to various parts of the world to learn more about the newer technologies in agriculture and implement them in his kingdom. The credit for bringing foreign silk seeds to Karnataka goes to Tipu Sultan. Today, Karnataka stands first in the entire country when it comes to silk production. About 3 lakh soldiers were given lands during Tipu’s tenure. It helped in the rise of smaller farmers and feudalism took a beating.

Farmers from backward communities like Kuruba, Eediga, Vokkaliga, Beda, Lingayat etc, breathed a sigh of relief for having got a break from exploitation. It was Tipu’s effort that saw Bangalore’s Lal Bagh possess rare plants and trees as he brought them from various parts of the world.

There is a reason for RSS to hate Tipu. While he was a Muslim was one reason, that he was pro-Dalit was another. Prior to Tipu taking charge, Brahmin Mutts were the biggest feudal forces in Karnataka. These Mutts would exploit Dalits and Shudras who were in large numbers. Tipu clipped the wings of these Mutts and distributed the temple lands among Dalit farmers. British historian Buchanan has said “There were 500 Brahmin houses in Nanjangud. They owned lands which would bring them an income of 14,000 pagodas. In the same village were 700 Dalit and Shudra families. Although they worked on these lands, they had to live outside the village. Tipu broke this Brahmin dominance and set them a monthly income of mere 100 pagodas”.

The likes of Prahlad Joshi, Muthalik, Madhusoodan and other Sangh Parivar elements see this as an anti-Brahmin move of Tipu and cry over it. A senior communist leader of our country Late C Rajeshwar Rao has written a rare book describing Tipu Sultan’s contributions to India. Revolutionary and martyr Saketh Rajan has listed Tipu’s achievements in his research book ‘Making History’. The likes of Chidananda Murthy must read these books. Sangh Parivar elements will not read such books. But researchers like Chidananda Murthy must not be like them.

There is no need for any permission from the cane leaders of Sangh Parivar to set up Tipu Sultan University. Certain media outlets are giving publicity to these fringe elements who are out to seek Hindu vote bank in the name of Tipu University.

Recently, a Kannada TV channel held a discussion on the Tipu University issue. While Pramod Muthalik, Chidananda Murthy and advocate Devaraju spoke on behalf of Sangh Parivar, C S Dwarakanath and Murulasiddappa spoke in favour of Tipu Sultan. The TV show anchor did not give opportunity to Dwarakanath and Murulasiddappa to speak at all. The ‘Chaddi’ anchor attempted to end the programme by letting Muthalik and Chidananda Murthy have the last word.  Dwarakanath and Murulasiddappa stated in the end that no matter who opposes the proposal, the Tipu Sultan University will come up.

Media is being used to give publicity to the idea that there is opposition to Tipu Sultan University. In reality, barring a few senseless people, there is no opposition to the move at all. There is no need to fear anyone either. The land of Srirangapatna is not the private property of Madhusoodan or any Sangh Parivar element. There is no need to value their remarks. Let the Central Government just ignore them and come forward to build the university.

It is quit eclear that Tippu Sultan was a fierce warrior and was supported by the French army in his battle against the British. British, French, and Dutch were trying to win India. It i stehre European conflict that spilled on Indian soil. If Tippu had won, Mysore would have been controlled by French instead of the British.Instead of reinstated Mysore Maharaja as puppet of the British, it woul dhave been Tippu as puppet of the French. It is well known that French people are Catholics and Tippu building a church for Catholic sect is no big deal. He had to please his supporters! It is all power-politics.

Mr. Sanath Kumar Belagali,

I think your opinion is biased. First of all what is the need of having university just 15 KM away from Mysore which is having old and prestigious university. If the reason behind this university is really for the good cause of the society, they could have planned university in some other parts of Karnataka where still students travel a long distance from their home town for master degrees. I am not against any religion and community. Its divide and rule policy from a party called "Congress". They does not wanted people to be united because they will loose their vote bank. And people like you will not understand those things and try to put blame on others. People of INDIA need not to have separate university for any community since they are having all the rights to study in any university in INDIA. For your information already minority people are having enough reservations and they can get seats in general category also. Don't put all these illogical writings in the public websites since at least few people will get wrong message out of your article. Sorry for the harsh words but its the ugly truth.

To those muslims who start and end their comment talking bad about RSS in our page. Educate yourselves!

What is RSS ?? Must Read this 20 Points

1. Field Marshal Cariappa in his speech to RSS volunteers said "RSS is my heart's work. My dear young men, don't be disturbed by uncharitable comments of interested persons. Look ahead! Go ahead! The country is standing in need of your services"

2. Nov 1949, Dr. Zakir Hussain : "Allegations against RSS of violence & hatred against the Muslims are wholly false."

3. Nov 1949, Dr. Zakir Hussain: "Muslims should learn the lesson of mutual love, cooperation and organisation from RSS".

4. Jayaprakash Narayan in 1977: "RSS is a revolutionary organization. No other organization in the country comes anywhere near it."

5. Noted Gandhian leader and the leader of Sarvoday movement, Jayaprakash Narayan, who earlier was a vocal opponent of RSS had the following to say about it in 1977 "RSS is a revolutionary organization. No other organization in the country comes anywhere near it. It alone has the capacity to transform society, end casteism and wipe the tears from the eyes of the poor." He further added "I have great expectations from this revolutionary organization which has taken up the challenge of creating a new India".

6. Sikh intellectual and author of 'A History of the Sikhs', Khushwant Singh, credits members of the RSS with helping and protecting Sikhs who were being targeted by members of theCongress political party during the 1984 Anti-Sikh Riots. Singh who otherwise has been critical of the RSS and believes that it is a " communal organization and dangerous to the country's secular fabric"
7. The RSS also has been banned in India thrice, during periods in which the government of the time claimed that they were a threat to the state: in 1948 after Mahatma Gandhi's assassination, during the Emergency (1975–77), and after the 1992 Babri Masjid demolition. The bans were subsequently lifted, in 1949 after the RSS was absolved of charges in the Gandhi murder case, in 1977 as a result of the Emergency being revoked, and in 1993 when no evidence of any unlawful activities was found against it by the tribunal constituted under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

8. After the Independence of India, many organizations including the RSS aspired to liberate Dadra and Nagar Haveli from Portuguese occupation. In April 1954, the RSS formed a coalition with the National Movement Liberation Organization (NMLO), the and Azad Gomantak Dal (AGD) for the liberation of Dadra and Nagar Haveli. On the night of 21 July, United front of Goans, a group, working independently of the coalition, captured the Portuguese police station at Dadra and declared Dadra as free. Subsequently on 28 July, volunteer teams of the RSS and AGD captured the territories of Naroli and Phiparia and ultimately the capital of Silvassa. The Portuguese forces which escaped and moved towards Nagar Haveli, were assaulted at Khandvel and were forced to retreat till they surrendered to the Indian border police at Udava on 11 August 1954. A native administration was setup with Appasaheb Karmalkar of NMLO as the Administrator of Dadra and Nagar Haveli on 11 August 1954.

9. In 1955, RSS leaders demanded the end of Portuguese rule in Goa and its integration into India. When Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru refused to obtain it by armed intervention, RSS leader Jagannath Rao Joshi led the satyagraha agitation straight into Goa itself.

10. The RSS earned recognition based on its volunteer work during the Sino-Indian War in 1962. RSS was invited by Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru to take part in the Indian Republic day parade of 1963. It along with several other civilian organizations took part in the parade. This event helped the RSS increase its popularity and its patriotic image.

11. Later in 1965 and 1971 Indo-Pak wars too, the RSS volunteers offered their services to maintain law and order of the country and were apparently the first to donate blood.

12. In 1975, the Indian Government under the Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi, proclaimed emergency rule in India, thereby suspending the fundamental rights and curtailing the rights of the press. The volunteers of the RSS formed underground movements for the restoration of democracy. Literature that was censored in the media was clandestinely published and distributed on a large scale and funds were collected for the movement. It said that the movement was "dominated by tens of thousands of RSS cadres, though more and more young recruits are coming". Talking about its objectives it said "its platform at the moment has only one plank: to bring democracy back to India".

13. It has been noted that the RSS volunteers participated in the Bhoodan movement organized by Gandhian leader Vinobha Bhave. RSS leader M. S. Golwalkar believed that the movement should inculcate a right and positive faith in the masses that can make them rise above the base appeal of Communism.

14. The mission of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh has been described as the revitalization of Indian value system based on universalism and peace and prosperity to all. Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, the worldview that the whole world is one family, propounded by the ancient thinkers of India, is considered as the ultimate mission of the organization.

15. The RSS has advocated the training of Dalits and other backward classes as temple high priests (a position traditionally reserved for Caste Brahmins and denied to lower castes). They argue that the social divisiveness of the Caste system is responsible for the lack of adherence to Hindu values and traditions and reaching out to the lower castes in this manner will be a remedy to the problem. The RSS has also condemned 'upper' caste Hindus for preventing Dalits from worshipping at temples, saying that "even God will desert the temple in which Dalits cannot enter".

16. During M. K. Gandhi's visit to RSS Camp accompanied by Mahadev Desai and Mirabehn at Wardha in 1934, he was surprised by the discipline and the absence of untouchability in RSS and commented "When i visited the RSS Camp. I was very much surprised by your discipline and absence of untouchablity ". He personally inquired to Swayamsevaks and found that they were living and eating together in the camp without bothering to know their castes.

17. Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar while visiting the RSS camp at Pune in 1939 observed that Swayamsevaks were moving in absolute equality and brotherhood without even caring to know the cast of others. In his address to the Swayamsevaks, he said that " This is the first time that I am visiting the camp of Sangh volunters. I am happy to find absolute equality between Savarniyas (Upper cast) and Harijans (Lower cast) without any one being aware of such difference existing." When he asked Dr Hedgewar whether there were any untouchables in the camp, he replied that there are neither "touchables" nor "untouchables" but only Hindus.

18. RSS runs 27,041 schools (Ekal Vidyalaya) in remote tribal areas : 7,53,123 socially deprived tribal students are enrolled.

19. RSS has 45,00,000 volunteers assembling in 40-50,000 shakhas each day. The largest volunteer organization in the world!

20. RSS has participated in many relief activities during natural calamities

He was a devout Muslim but majority of his subjects were Hindus. The portrayal of Tipu Sultan as a religious bigot is disputed. At the request of the French, he built a church, the first in Mysore. Tipu’s army also included Catholic soldiers, and he allowed Christians to build a church at Srirangapatna. Mangalorean historian A. L. P. D'Souza mentions that Tipu also had Christians in his administration.

Mr. Sanath Kumar Belagali is given very good article...
On the issue of the proposed Tippu Sultan University at Srirangapattana, We all know that he is the freedom fighter and that is the true of history. The people who are those studied the history (which is not twisted as per the saffron writers like chidanada or bairappa) they well known TIPPU is one of the secular man also. The SEER of SHRIGERI MUTT is given some details about TIPPU SULTHAN, which he sent the letters and donations to shringeri temple during his period, I have remember that, all these details published in THARANGA Kannada weekly nearly two and half decades back. But there is no surprise about someone who is opposing his (TIPPU’s) name to the proposed university who are those same people also opposing our Indian constitution.

They are (The Opposing team of freedom fighter TIPPU and also known as the people of Sanghparivar or RSS ).wearing the mask of patriotism DESHAPREMI because inside the mask they are the DESHADROHI already proved their involvement in many blasts in India.
So that my kind appeal to SHRI PEJAVAR SWAMI, please collect the article from TARANGA office before blaming TIPPU. He was never opposing Hindus but opposed the Brahmins ( As explained as in the above article.) for Exploiting back ward Hindu communities. So that being a SWAMEEJI you too oppose such tradition still existing in the society which is known as namely MADESNAANA, PANKTHIBEDHA etc

The rss hate tipu sultan only bcoz of his is a muslim thats all & now chidanada murthy also became a... there is one more choice to govt. will make rss university all chaddi will be .very .happy

PLAYING WITH THE FACTS : Mahatma Gandhi is Hero of the nation. The wold adapted his non-violence. RSS killed him. Naturam Godse has become martyr and Hero in the place of Mahatmaji. So No wonder whoever does whatever, as long as he belongs to blacklisted communities of RSS, he will remain labeled as everything how they need. Is there anything in the Indian History where ruling King sets out to fight in the battle field and not returns alive. Tippu who brought the awareness of freedom. Fought 4 wars until he died in the battle field, defending his subjects and his mother land. While the whole nation and the world including the British have the great place for Tippu, while our dumb. deaf and blind people have contradicting ungrateful comments. These are the height of NAMAK HARAM and ungratefulness. Not 1 and even 100 Universities naming after such personalities will make our fair gratitude for such sacrifices. Who cares whether they like it or not to name it after Tippu. This is a nothing but jealous. They can not wipe the facts of the history.
Thanks to Mr. Sanath Kumar Belagali and coastaldigest.com for bringing out all important and timely write up

Tippu's Funds to Sharda Temple

Tipu furnished Sree Shankaracharya of Sringeri with funds for reinstalling the displaced image in the Sharda temple. There are about thirty letters in Kannada of Tipu to the Swamiji, which throw a flood of light on his religious policy. Normally, all his letters begin with his own name at the top, but these letters mention the name of Swamiji at the Top with all his titles, and Tipu’s name is at the bottom without any title. In 1791 during the third Mysore war the invading Marathas army under Persuram Bhau caused a lot of damage to Sringeri, plundered the temple property and even displaced the image of the goddess Sharada. The Swamiji of the temple left the place, and informed Tipu about the Maratha raid, seeking his help for consecrating the image of the goddess. Tipu responded immediately to the request, and wrote to the Swamiji expressing such sentiments of respect for Hinduism as to disprove any charge of intolerance against him. He furnished the Swamiji with funds to re-install the image. After the Idol was installed, Tipu received the Prasada and shawls, and in return he sent cloth and a bodice for the goddess and a pair of shawls for the Swamiji, besides two palanquins, one for the goddess and the other for Swamiji. At another time Tipu addressed the Swamiji as Jagadguru,
