Belagavi, Jun 30: At least five persons were killed on the spot and two others suffered serious injuries after a speeding MUV they were travelling in, hit the road divider and turned turtle near Vantmuri village on Pune-Bengaluru national highway late on Thursday night.
According to the police, four of them died on the spot, while one succumbed to injuries at the district hospital. Two injured have been admitted to a private hospital for treatment. The accident occurred when the speeding MUV was on its way from Belagavi to Chikkodi.
The deceased and the injured are yet to identified and are believed to be residents of Chikkodi. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Amarnath Reddy visited the spot. Kakati police have registered a case.
