Van topples in Arsikere; 23 injured

Arsikere, December 21: A van carrying passengers toppled from the tank bund injuring 23 persons near Kanthenahalli on the outskirts of Arsikere on Tuesday.

Out of them five are said to be in a serious condition and have been shifted to government hospital in Hassan.

All the passengers are said to be residents of Arsikere and were proceeding to Om Shakti temple in Melmaruvathur in Tamil Nadu after offering prayers to Kariyamma devi temple here.

According to eye witnesses, the driver was trying to avoid a lorry that was coming at full speed from Tiptur side when the van was plying on the tank bund and lost balance when the mishap occurred.

The incident is said to have occurred at around 12 noon. Out of the injured 20 persons are said to be residents of Hassan road in Arsikere town and Anchekoppalu.

Three hail from Channapatna and Alur taluk, it is identified. The severely injured Kavitha, 20, Asha, 26, Yashodamma, 40, Kamakshi, 25 are being treated at Anchekoppalu and Ramanna, 40, is being admitted to a hospital in Hassan.

Van driver Keerthikumar and other injured are being treated at the government hospital in the town.
