Mangalore, December 22: In yet another serial theft, thieves broke into two houses and made away with gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 5.75 lakh at Dwarkanagar in Urwa police station in the city.

According to Ram Aithal, owner of the one of the burgled houses, gold and silver articles estimated at Rs. 3.75 lakh were taken away from his house in the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday.

It is believed that the burglars might have entered the house when Ram Aithal had been to his son's house in Ashoknagar. The burglars broke open the front door and took away the articles.

In the same night the burglars also took away silver articles estimated at Rs. 2 lakh from the house of Mr. Daiwatwa, which was about 500 metres from Mr. Aithal's house.

The police said Mr. Daiwatwa had locked the house a few days ago and had proceeded to his son-in-law's house in Manipal.
