The film, based on the life of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat and directed by Nitesh Tiwari, released in the theatres on December 23.

It has been declared tax free in four states — Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana and Delhi — to promote 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao', a Government of India's social campaign aiming to reduce selective abortion of females, to protect girls and to educate them.

The Delhi Government will be organising screening of the film for 4,500 students enrolled in its schools between January 20 and 24.

"A total of nine batches of over 500 students will watch the movie between January 20 and 24. The programme shall see a culmination through a gathering in Najafgarh stadium on the last day to observe 'National Girl Child Day', wherein issue of gender equality will be disseminated among 4000 students," a senior government official said.

"People will be sensitised towards ensuring equal opportunities of good health and education for their daughters as their sons. Other ideas include shunning dowry, standing up for equal property rights for daughters, stigmatising gender based sex selection and welcoming daughters in ones lives and homes," he added.

Dangal is a biographical sports drama, based on the life of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat and his Commonwealth gold medalist daughters Geeta and Babita Phogat.
