Mangaluru, Jul 22: A woman has lodged a complaint in Bajpe police station against Mulki-Moodbidri MLA K Abhayachandra Jain accusing him of behaving rudely with her after his car hit her at Bajpe on the outskirts of the city.
The incident took place at around 4:30 p.m. on Friday when 48-year-old Zainab was returning home after attending a mehendi function at Kinnipadavu.
In the complaint, Zainab claimed that she was hit by the car when she was walking by the roadside near Bajpe market. She also said that the car driver and Jain shouted at her after knocking her down.
“I suffered injuries. When I demanded justice, Jain threatened me. They did not even take me to the hospital. After they sped away, my neighbours came to my rescue,” said Zainab, who later got admitted to a hospital.
Denying the allegation, Jain said he was on his way to Moodbidri from the airport to attend a programme. Near the market, his car driver saw another vehicle suddenly approaching him and so moved the car to the roadside. In the process the car window glass mirror hit Zainab.
The MLA said he immediately asked his driver t stop the vehicle. “I went to the woman and sought an apology. But she was not ready to listen and started abusing me.”
Jain said he did not want to create a scene and so immediately left the place. The injury to the woman was minor. “It’s a mistake on my part that I did not inform the police,” he added.
