Writers, artists and activists of different organisations from Tulu Nadu marched from Jyoti Circle to the office of the Deputy Commissioner, where they held a public meeting.
Addressing the protestors, senior writer Sunitha Shetty Mumbai expressed her unhappiness over the government's lack of interest to protect and promote Tulu language and culture.
She said that it is a misfortune of Tulu people that they had to take to the streets to exert pressure on the government to give due respect to this language.
Praising the beauty of Tulu language and culture, Aboobakar, a Tulu activist, said that there is no justification for government the delay to include Tulu in eighth schedule of the Constitution.
Yakshagana artist Sarapady Ashok Shetty speaking at the protest said that government should not forget that artists from Tulu Nadu have spread all over world.
President of Dakshina Kannada Zilla Kannada Sahitya Parishat Pradeep Kumar kalkura said that elected representatives of Tulu Nadu should show interest in fulfilling the demand of the people of Tulu Nadu.
Mangalore North MLA B A Mohiuddin Bava, who visited the protesters, expressed that he is confident of Tulu's inclusion in eighth schedule of the Constitution.
Meanwhile a memorandum was hand over to deputy commissioner.
Harikrishna Punaroor, Vamana Nandavara, KN Telar, Vijay Kumar Kodiyalbail, Seetharam Kulal, Ramachandra Baikampady, Ira Nemu poojary, Dr Annaih Kulal, GV Sudhakar Shetty and others took part in protest.
