Beltangady, Jul 30: In an unexpected development, Karnataka High Court has issued an order to suspend a senior IPS officer and two other police officials in Dakshina Kananda in a civil case.
A high court judge on Wednesday directed the chief secretary of the state home department to suspend the trio for their inaction in a case related to the construction of a temple on a private land at Ujire.
Ujire based couple Shashikala Shetty and Taranath Shetty had lodged a complaint against that their land was illegally occupied while building Shree Kshetra Kunjarpa temple in Ujire.
The dispute had begun after Hindutva activist and Praja Prabhutva Vedike leader Mahesh Thimarody took over as the chief of temple committee after the demise of Shashikala Shetty's father Mahabala Shetty.
According to the complainants the temple, the land on which the temple was constructed was belonged to them. The subsequent survey report also had endorsed the complainants' claim.
Later, Shashikala Shetty filed a petition in the high court alleging that the Beltangady police of failing to take necessary action in connection with the case. The high court had summoned the SP and other police officials on Wednesday. However trio failed to appear in the court.
This made the judge to direct the home department to suspend the cops, sources said.
