Bangalore, Aug 2: Bangalore police arrested V R Bhat, a prominent member of the right wing Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), on Monday for posting a derogatory remark against a woman activist on Facebook.
Chandra Layout police arrested him from Yashwanthpur in Bangalore after several complaints were filed against him for his threat.
Bhat, freelance writer, said in a Facebook comment that “such women (those who misuse the saffron flag) should be raped. Poor things, what do they know, they think what they know is truth, (but) things will be all right if women like you are dragged by their hair and raped by rapists."
An office-bearer of Bharatha Jnana Vijnana Samiti, an organisation promoting scientific temper, had posted her remarks on Facebook about how “priesthood held a leash on people despite scientific progress and advancements.”
In his comment, Bhat wrote: “What do you know about Sanatana Dharma? Organisations like yours misuse the saffron flag. It will suffice when women hold your crest and rape you (sic).” On Monday, she approached the police accusing Bhat of “threatening to rape” and “inciting sexual crimes against women”. Police are on the lookout for Bhat.
Interestingly after the news reports started coming out , RSS has clarified that it has no links with Bhat. “His remarks have nothing to do with RSS. We will never endorse such irresponsible and socially unacceptable comments,” said B V Sreedharswamy, joint general secretary of RSS, Karnataka.
A case was registered under IT Act 66A (sending offensive messages through communication service) and IPC Sections 504 and 506.
