Puttur, Aug 29: Alleging that reporter B T Ranjan had published a fabricated story in his newspaper which was resulting in hurting the sentiments of people and residents of Puttur and also dividing the party, members of the taluk unit of Congress party staged a demonstration demanding that editor of the newspaper should restrain the report.
The demonstrators said that they would resort to restraining the publication of the newspaper themselves, if the editor failed in doing so.
Addressing the demonstrators here on Thursday, Puttur Congress block president K Hemanath Shetty said that while newspapers had the big responsibility of unifying the society, it was a tragedy that this newspaper was trying to divide the people by publishing fabricated reports. The fictitious reports are portraying the town of Puttur in a bad light. The people of the town are developing communally insensitive attitude due to the publication of such reports in the newspaper, resulting in communal clashes between the Hindu and Muslim communities, he said.
He also said that people were living in fear following the publication of falsified report claiming increase in naxal activity and terrorist movement along bordering area of the district. He said that the party members had given several complaints to the editor of the concerned newspaper regarding the apocryphal reports written by its news correspondent Ranjan, resulting in no changes.
Warning that the said correspondent should apply caution while writing his reports, Mr Shetty said that if the same continued to be published in the newspaper, they would be forced to give a call to spurn the daily newspaper Udayavani in the entire district.
