Mangalore, Sep 20: The notorious practice among the private bus drivers and conductors of always being in a hurry at the cost of passenger's safety was illustrated again near Talapady on the outskirts of the city on Saturday.
Aamina, 55-year-old wife of Mustafa, a resident of Talapady, who was about to board a private bust at Talapady check-post was crushed to death under the wheels of same bus, thanks to the recklessness of its driver and conductor.
It is learnt that the bus began to move when the woman was entering into it from the back door. The woman lost her balance and fell. Within a second she came under the wheels wheals of the bus.
Local residents who witnessed the death of a woman staged a protest and stopped the killer bus named Padma Travels bearing route number 43 (KA 19, A8754). The bus plies between State Bank Bus Terminus in Mangalore and Talapady.
It is learnt that both the driver and conductor escaped from the spot. The angry mob demanded the cancellation of the bus and immediate arrest of the driver.
Ullal police rushed to the spot and dispersed the mob assuring to take action against the accused.
