Mangalore, Oct 21: Bowing to pressure from Hindutva organisations, Police Commissioner has suspended Kavoor police sub inspector Umesh Kumar on Monday.
The SI had allegedly assaulted a rowdy sheeter-cum-Hindutva activist Charan, a resident of Moodushedde a fortnight back. It was alleged that though Charan had obtained bail from the court pertaining to an incident, the SI had allegedly taken him to the station and assaulted him. A case against SI was lodged at the police station on October 9 in this regard.
But Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal continued protests demanding suspension of the police officer for three days.
The police commissioner then ordered an inquiry to be conducted by Moodabidri inspector Ananthapadmanabha.
The inspector conducted the investigation along with DCP Vishnuvardhan and based on the report, Umesh Kumar has been suspended.
Murder accused
According to Umesh Kumar, Charan is one of the accused in Pitty Nagesh murder case too. He was also involved in attempt to murder case, selling Ganja. His name was registered under rowdy-sheeters' list. œCharan was supposed to visit police station daily and sign on ledger. But he refused to come daily, the SI earlier told media.
