Mangalore, Oct 21: With sound levels, the enthusiasm also went up several decibels with local rock bands performing at the regional prelims of the annual cultural festival of IIT-Madras - Saarang 2015 - organised in Mangalore.
For the first time in Mangalore, a regional preliminary round was organised at G6 Music Café in the city on Sunday as part of Decibels, Saarang's semi-professional Western Music Band Hunt, where the crowd saw six amazing bands battle out to win a wild card entry to the final event at the popular cultural fest.
The cultural and musical extravaganza will be held between January 7 and 11 next year.
Bands such as Rock Paper Scizzors from Coimbatore, The Undecided from Manipal, Induced Deception from Mangalore, Mount & Do and Duck Food from NITK, Suratkal and Avalanche Breakdown from Mangalore competed against each other in the Mangalore Band Hunt show which saw the Avalanche Breakdown making it through to the final event in Chennai.
The bands delivered covers of hit numbers such as'In The End' by Linkin Park, Jailhouse Rock,'Love Me Again' by John Newman and others.
Speaking to Coastaldigest.com, marketing head of Saarang festival Vikshak, a final year student at IIT-M, said that regional prelims would also be held in Cochin, Hyderabad, Pune and Bangalore. This is the first time Decibels hosted a prelimimary round in Mangalore, which is a budding place for rock bands, he said.
He said that the winners of the regional prelims would be entitled to a wild card entry at the rock show event at Saarang, free trip to the event and five days of free accommodation during the cultural festival.
The bands were judged by three members of the band'Rhythm of Love', based in Udupi. The next regional prelims of Decibels will be held in Pune and Bangalore.
