Mangalore, Oct 30: Members of the district unit of BJP Mahila Morcha gathered in front of deputy commissioner's office here on Thursday and protested against the mob attack on senior IAS officer Rashmi V Mahesh at the state run Administrative Training Institute at Mysore two weeks ago.
Lashing at the Congress-run state government, the protestors blamed the inefficiency and inability of the state government in protecting its IAS officers, especially those who were women.
Addressing the protestors, state secretary of BJP Mahila Morcha Shyamala Kunder blamed the government for not taking action against the attackers who attacked and manhandled the IAS officer. Instead of taking appropriate action, the government has chosen to remain silent over the issue, thereby indirectly supporting the mob attack on the woman, she said, stressing that women needed to raise their voice against the injustice meted to a senior officer.
Recalling a similar incident of an attack on a female IAS officer in Uttar Pradesh, she questioned the oppression of women in Congress-ruling states. Such acts of oppression against women should stop, and the government should provide necessary protection for female officers working in the administration. Swift justice should be provided to the IAS officer Rashmi after conducting a fair probe in the attack case, she urged the government.
District Mahila Morcha general secretary Roopa D Bangera said that the attack on IAS officer Rashmi had brought shame to the society. “Assaults on women continue to rise in various parts of the state while the ruling party seems to be asleep. While the numbers of assaults and rapes on women and children continue to mount, the total law and order system in the state had collapsed. How can we expect the Congress to provide protection to the common women while it is unable to provide protection even to its officers? The congress is responsible for the rising crimes, including the attack on Rashmi Mahesh two weeks ago,” she said.
She urged the government to launch a probe in the attack case and provide swift justice to the IAS officer.
Following the protest, the protestors submitted a memorandum addressed to the Governor of Karnataka, urging a CBI probe in the assault of the IAS officer.
