Mangalore, Oct 31: A youth was brutally hacked to death in a saloon shop in Mangalore by a gang of assailants in the broad day light on Friday.
The victim has been identified as Ijaz alias Ijja (28), son of Ismaeel, a resident of Adyar-Kannur, Mangalore. The incident took place at around 11 a.m. when Ijaz visited Modeling Hair Dressers at Kannur, here for shaving.
The six members of a gang that barged into the saloon shop all of a sudden surrounded a helpless Ijaz and indiscriminately attacked him with lethal arms such as machetes.
The assailants fled from the scene in a car even before onlookers could realize what's going on before their eyes.
Ijaz, who sustained severe injuries in the unexpected attack collapsed in a pool of blood and breathed his last on the spot.
Mangalore City Police Commissioner R Hitendra and other senior police officers rushed to the spot and took stock of the situation.
Sources said that Ijaz's name was linked to brutal murder of Putthu, a rowdy sheeter occurred at Kannur in March 2012. If rumours are to be believed today's murder was a revenge killing by a rival gang. Police said that an ongoing gang war cannot be ruled out.
