Mysuru, Nov 27: Former judge of the High Court of Karnataka H N Nagmohan Das has expressed concern over about 3.5 crore pending cases in courts across the country and said that filing of cases has grown by 28 percent in the last few years.
Emphasising the need for more judicial personnel, Mr. Das said the number of judges and courts should also increase to ensure time-bound disposal of cases.
Yet, he said the Supreme Court disposed of 60,000 cases every year while the High Courts dispose of 18,000 cases annually. All the lower courts in the country together dispose of 1.65 crore cases every year in the country, he added.
Mr. Das urged the government to extend all possible assistance to develop infrastructure for the judicial system and facilitate speedy disposal of justice.
He said the people of the country had faith in the judiciary and stressed the need to create more awareness about the existing laws among the public.
