Mangaluru, Dec 26: As far as the implementation of development programmes for minorities is concerned Karnataka is the role model for entire country, according to Qamarul Islam, Minister for Municipal Administration, Minorities Welfare and Wakf.
Speaking at the Urs ceremony of Hazrat Shaikh Mahmood Waliyullah Darga Shareef at Baikambady Adka on the outskirts of the city, the minister said that Karnataka government has initiated several programmes for the social and educational growth of minorities in the state.
He said that officials from other states often visit Karnataka to learn about the minority welfare schemes in this state and follow the same models in their respective states.
He said that the state government has sanctioned Rs 1 crore for the construction of a compound wall for the two acre land sanctioned for the construction of Haj Bhavan in Mangaluru.
The minister said that state has taken all precautionary measures to prevent the encroachment of the Wakf properties.
He also promised to release Rs 10 laksh for the development of basic facilities in the surroundings of Darga Shareef in Baikambady Adka.
MLA Mohideen Bawa said that government has assured to release funds for the improvement of basic facilities at the places of worship of minorities in Mangaluru City North constituency.
