Mangaluru, Feb 26: Two persons have been arrested in connection with the assault on a student of Govinda Dasa First Grade College, Surthkal.
Police said that Guruprasad and Chittaranjan, were arrested for assault on Mohammed Riaz (20), who was in a picture that showed his male classmate lying on the lap of five girls and was circulated on a social messaging app.
Both arrested are in their late 20s and residents of Surathkal. They are painters by profession.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) K. Santosh Babu said that the two were among six persons who had assaulted Riaz on February 22. The police are searching for the others involved in the incident.
A group of persons had assaulted Riaz after he reportedly refused to reveal where his classmate, seen in the picture, was staying.
The police have accused Raiz’s two classmates Ritesh and Vinith, who clicked the image, of being part of the assault. They have registered an attempt to murder and a kidnapping case.
Mr. Babu said they were checking who and how this image had been circulated on a social messaging app and social networking sites. A case has been registered under Section 66 (A) of the Information Technology Act.
