Mangaluru, Mar 4: As per the suggestion of an enquiry committee, the Govinda Dasa First Grade College, Surathkal, has revoked the suspension of six students including five girls.
The six students had been suspended by the principal on charge of violation of the rules and regulations of the college by using cell phones inside the college.
However, the college management had in fact decided to temporarily suspend them after a photo of theirs emerged on social media showing the boy lying on the lap of the girls in their classroom.
Meanwhile, the college has refused the demands of Hindutva outfits including Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarti Parishad to debar the students after the photo, according to sources at the college, was uploaded on Facebook on February 22 and went viral online.
The issue had snowballed in a major controversy after a male student sitting next to the girls in the controversial photo was kidnapped and brutally assaulted by the miscreants of Sangh Parivar.
Meanwhile, one of the girls in the picture had lodged a police complaint against one of their classmate, Vinith, for taking the picture, of circulating the image on social media without their consent. The girls’ complaint has been registered as violation of Section 66 (A) of the Information Technology Act, which has stringent punishment.
