Mangaluru, Mar 31: A woman from Bengaluru has lodged a complaint alleging that she was raped by a government doctor in Mangaluru, having promised to marry her after the two became acquainted through a matrimonial website few months ago.
According to the complaint lodged by the woman at Mahalakshmi Layout police station in Bengaluru, she got acquainted to a government doctor named Dr Suresh Kumar through a matrimonial website during her search for a suitable groom nine months ago. The doctor, who was then working in Mangaluru, had informed her of his first marriage and subsequent divorce from his wife, and also relayed his wish to get married again.
Agreeing to this, the two had briefly met for the first time in Bengaluru and expressed their mutual liking and agreement to get married. During this while, they had also kept in touch through mobile phones, according to the woman.
Following this, the accused Dr Suresh invited her to Mangaluru, brought her to his house in Kankanady and allegedly raped her on August 8, 2014. After the sexual assault on her, the accused also alleged forced her to consume some tablet and threatened to get her killed if she reported the assault.
According to the complaint, the woman also realised that his first wife still resided with him.
After returning back to Bengaluru, the woman lodged a complaint at Mahalakshmi Layout police station. Since the crime occurred in Mangaluru, the case has been transferred to the women’s police station in the coastal city. Investigation is ongoing in this regard.
