Mangaluru, Apr 19: As many as six youths including five foreign nationals have been arrested by police in Mangaluru after a violent clash between two groups of students last night in the city.
At least four youth were injured in the clash occurred at the basement of Veera Palace, a paying guest accommodation for men at Kodialguthu East, in the city. One of the youth was stabbed with a fork by a foreign national, it is learnt.
According to reliable sources, the fight between foreign students of a city based college and local youths erupted over a trivial incident of rash driving near a bar at Karangalpady area in the city. Enraged local residents reportedly assaulted foreign nationals, who fled to their accommodation.
The local youths followed them and continued the fight at the parking lot of Veera Palace. However, the foreign nationals managed to overpower them and one among the students allegedly assaulted a local youth with a fork causing serious injuries.
Police rushed to the spot on hearing of the incident and arrested five foreign nationals and another student hailing from Kerala. The foreigners include Syrians and Sudanese, sources said.
Sources said that during investigation it came to light that one of the foreign nationals was overstaying his visa.
The injured students were hospitalized in the city. Two separate cases have been registered at jurisdictional Barke police station by both the groups.
