Mangaluru, Apr 28: Two days before the official inauguration of the 19th Federation Cup – National Senior Athletics Championship 2015, the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) centre for the championship was formally inaugurated by Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai at Mangala Stadium here on Tuesday.
The anti-doping centre was inaugurated at the restored building which housed the first pavilion at the sports ground.
Briefing mediapersons at a press conference here on Tuesday, Minister for Sports and Youth Empowerment Abhayachandra Jain said that the first pavilion that had been built at the Mangala ground had been restored and converted into an anti-doping centre for sports and athletic tournaments. The decision to host the Federation cup championship became a boon to Mangaluru as it was possible to improve the synthetic track, toilet facilities and other infrastructure at the Mangala Stadium, he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Rai said that after Dakshina Kannada was chosen as the host for the Federation Cup athletics championship, the venue of the tournament Mangala Stadium was made well-equipped and ready for the athletes in a short period.
He said that along with the sum of Rs 50 lakh released by the chief minister for the championship, the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) had handed over a sum of Rs 5 lakh for the national tournament, and also announced that the forest department would hand over a sum of Rs 10 lakh towards the same.
