Mangaluru, May 27: Security personnel took a youth into custody for having entered the terminal of Mangaluru International Airport to see-off his family members who boarded an international flight and handed him to jurisdictional police on Tuesday morning.
He was later handed to jurisdictional Bajpe police for further interrogation about his background and intention. It is learnt that he was interrogated from morning to evening over allegedly gaining illegal entry into the airport terminal before he was released from custody by the police.
Iqbal, along with his father, mother and two relatives, had booked their tickets for Mangaluru-Muscat flight for Tuesday. However, owing to his mother's bad health, Iqbal cancelled his flight ticket booking at the last moment and booked his flight for a later date.
Since he did not cancel the tickets of his father, mother and two relatives, he brought them to the airport and entered the airport terminal with his formerly booked ticket to see them off from the Departure section.
Noticing that Iqbal did not board any flight from the terminal, he was taken into custody by the security forces while he was exiting the building. After preliminary enquiry, he was handed over to Bajpe police for interrogation.
“During the interrogation we realized that Iqbal had no bad intensions. However, his entry was illegal. Hence we have warned him and released,” said Sub Inspector Ramesh Hanapur from Bajpe police station.
Meanwhile Airport director J T Radhakrishnan warned the people against illegal entry into the Airport.
