Udupi, Jun 13: As part of precautionary measures to prevent the spread of communicable diseases such as malaria, dengue and chikungunya in Udupi City Municipal Council (CMC) limits, citizens, businessmen and builders should observe caution and follow strict guidelines against the spread of these diseases in the interest of safeguarding the health of citizens, said Udupi CMC president Yuvaraj.
Hotel owners are strictly advised to provide boiled and filtered drinking water to their customers. Mosquito nets should be compulsorily provided to workers and customers staying overnight in accommodation and lodges. Water lying stagnant in hotel premises should be sprayed with kerosene or waste oil, as per the guidelines.
Citizens are also cautioned against allowing water to collect in waste items kept in the surroundings such as old tyres, vessels and coconut shells.
Any person suffering from fever are advised to get immediate medical attention including a blood test and medical treatment. Where instances of fever have been detected among labourers at construction sites, water collected for curing or lying stagnant should be sprayed with kerosene or waste oil. If builders were found flouting the rules, strict legal action will be taken against them, informed Yuvaraj in a press release.
