Mangaluru, Jun 15: A female IT professional who landed at Mangalore International Airport and an Ola cab driver, who came to pick her were allegedly manhandled and chased away by the taxi “mafia” at the airport.
The woman’s could not lodge complaint on the same day as her father-in-law breathed his last even before she could reach home through an auto-rickshaw after escaping from the hands of taxi drivers.
In fact she had returned to Mangaluru within two days after reaching Bengaluru on work after receiving information that her father-in-law was in a critical condition.
She reached the Airport at 4 p.m. through a Jet Airways flight. Her husband had already booked an Ola cab for her to fetch her home from the Airport.
However, when she approached the Ola cab, she saw a group of taxi drivers harassing and manhandling the cab driver identified as Muhammad.
The complaint said that the group forced the cab driver to go back without allowing her to board the vehicle. She immediately contacted her husband over phone and narrated the incident. Her husband called the cab driver again and requested him to wait for her outside the airport.
However, the taxi drivers again gheraoed the cab and assaulted its driver for ignoring their warning and threatened him to with dire consequences if took any passenger from the airport.
The complainant said that after chasing away the Ola cab, the taxi drivers’ gang started chasing her. “I started running and they were chasing me without any fear,” she said adding that they even outraged her modesty. Finally, when the woman reached Kavoor-Bajpe road, an auto-rickshaw driver came to her rescue and dropped her home.
