Bengaluru, Jul 27: The Special Investigation Team (SIT), probing the alleged corruption in Lokayukta, on Sunday arrested Syed Riyaz, Joint Commissioner (Lokayukta).
Sources said that the probe had revealed that Riyaz was one of the kingpins in the extortion ring within the Lokayukta and his interrogation was said to be crucial to ascertain the role of Ashwin Rao, the prime accused in the case.
On Saturday, the SIT had issued a lookout notice for Riyaz, suspecting that he may flee the country. There were also rumours that he had already fled.
However, SIT officials picked him up from a private hospital at Koramangala, where he was admitted for the past three days with complaints of high blood pressure and diabetes. Riyaz had held the post of PRO in the Lokayukta for more than 18 years now.
