Mangaluru, Aug 1: Protesting against what they call the “inefficient” administration of Congress government in the state and their alleged failure to solve the major problems of citizens in Mangaluru, CPI(M) will organise a mass sit-in protest by the citizens in front of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) building at Lalbagh here on September 14.
Announcing this at a press conference here on Saturday, CPI(M) district secretary Sunil Kumar Bajal said that despite several major problems plaguing the city such as privatisation of drinking water, increase in self-assessment property tax, lack of proper drainage system, improper collection of solid waste from households and non-existence of footpaths for major concretised roads, the MCC was a complete failure in its administration.
To protest against these problems, over a thousand people from various sectors including auto-rickshaw drivers and traders are expected to participate in the mass sit-in protest on September 14, he said.
He said that around 1,000 party workers would visit each household in the city limits on Sunday and distribute pamphlets informing them of the protest.
On Sunday, mass processions will leave from Urwa Store, Yeyyadi, Nanthoor, Kankanady and State Bank simultaneously at 10 a.m. and convene in front the MCC building at 11 a.m., he informed.
CPI(M) Mangaluru city north secretary Krishnappa Konchady, city south committee member Santhosh Shaktinagar, district committee member Yogish Jeppinamogaru and former corporator Jayanti B Shetty were present on the occasion.
