Mangaluru, Aug 1: Mangaluru Bar Association has demanded the arrest of inspector T D Nagaraj of Mangaluru East Police Station, who was suspended on charges of assaulting advocate Uttam Rai.
Speaking at a press conference here on Saturday, president of the association S P Chengappa said that if the inspector was not arrested within a period of three days, there would be a statewide protests by advocates demanding his arrest.
The advocate assaulted by the inspector has been receiving treatment at a private hospital in the city and an FIR has been registered against the inspector. It has become necessary to make people retain their belief in the police system.
After assaulting advocate Uttam Rai, the inspector has further filed a complaint against him accusing him of interfering while discharging his duties as a police officer, he said, adding that the bar association strongly condemned the assault against the advocate.
Office bearers of the association Yashodhar Karkera, Raghavendra H V, Yatish and M P Shenoy were present on the occasion.
