Mangaluru, Aug 30: A person, said to be mentally disturbed, has opened fire at policemen, who tried to enter his house in Aivarnadu village in Sullia taluk of Dakshina Kannada district.
It is learnt that the man identified as Mahesh has been living alone under self-confinement in his house from the past several months.
Having an LLB degree as educational qualification, Mahesh had been married and also had a young son. However, due to marital disputes, his wife left to her paternal home along with their son, who subsequently died due to a serious illness.
Rumoured to be a victim of mental illness thereafter, Mahesh is known to be living under self-confinement in the house, shutting himself from the world. According to local sources, he does not allow any person to enter his house and also shoots his rifle to scare off unwanted visitors. Hence, no person dares to enter this house.
After being informed of this situation, a few policemen from the jurisdictional police station arrived at his doorstep on Saturday and requested him several times to come out, but to no avail.
Even after spraying pepper powder indoors, Mahesh refused to venture out, reportedly making offensive remarks against the policemen.
When the same policemen tried to break open the door and enter the house, Mahesh is said to have fired his rifle, pushing the policemen to abandon their efforts.
