Udupi, Sep 1: Two teachers from Udupi district have been chosen for the national best teacher award.
They are Ashok Kumar Shetty, headmaster of Srinikethana High School at Matapady village near Brahmavar and Vasanthi N., headmistress at Gurukula Aided Higher Primary School at Mala village in Karkala taluk.
They would receive the award from President Pranab Mukherjee at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on September 5, said Diwaker Shetty, Deputy Director of Public Instruction (DDPI).
Mr. Shetty (51), a native of Kadoor village in Udupi taluk, has a M.A., and M.Ed. degrees. He served as a teacher at Sri Vani High School at Nadoor for three years. He has been serving as headmaster at Srinikethana Kannada Medium High School at Matapady for the last 26 years.
He has also served in different capacities in various voluntary organizations. He has served as president of the District Headmasters’ Association in 2010-11.
He has many awards to his credit including Best Teacher Award of Udupi district (2005) and State-level Best Teacher Award (2011).
Ms. Vasanthi (59) worked as Assistant Teacher at the Gurukula Higher Primary School for last 24 years.
She was then promoted and has been serving as the Headmistress of the same school for the last 14 years.
Hailing from Arasinamakki in Belthangady taluk of Dakshina Kannada district, she has promoted lot of cultural activities at the school. She has bagged several awards dincluding the District-level Best Teacher Award (2004) and State-level Best Teacher Award (2013).
