Manipal, Sep 4: Two more injured persons who were receiving treatment for severe burns they suffered after a bullet tanker exploded at Bargi village near Kumta in Uttara Kannada district on September 1, died at Kasturba Hospital here on Thursday.
With this, the toll in the LPG tanker explosion has gone up to five.
The Manipal police gave the names of the two dead, a man and a woman who passed away on Thursday, as Shakila (32) and Srikant Patagar (57).
With the death of Srikant Patagar, four members of his family, who were injured in the explosion, have passed away. Nagaveni Patagar (84) died on September 1, while Nagaveni’s daughter, Jayashree (54), and Jayashree’s son, Bharat (26), passed away on September 2; Srikant, who died on Thursday, was Jayashree’s husband.
According to sources in the hospital, of the nine injured, four are in critical condition. The condition of five, including the driver of the tanker, is stable.
The driver, Amit, who suffered a fracture in his right leg and underwent surgery, is improving. Among the five stable persons, two have been shifted to ward and they are recovering, the sources added.
As many as 14 persons, who were injured in the tanker explosion in Bargi village, were admitted to the Kasturba Hospital on September 1.
