Mangaluru, Sep 7: As many as six persons have been arrested by Ullal police in connection to the murder of an auto-rickshaw driver at Natekal on the outskirts of the city.
The accused include victim Hidayat’s first wife’s brother Fazil (25), a resident of Ullal, who had threatened his brother-in-law of dire consequences following divorce.
The other accused are Lukman, Irfan, Khurshid, Jamsheer and Tanvez, all residents of Madani Nagar in Ullal. The police are trying to hunt down Nisar and Naufal, the two prime accused in the case.
On August 29, Hidayat was found murdered inside his auto-rickshaw which was parked at Natekal under the limits of Ullal police station.
The arrested have reportedly confessed to their crime and revealed that it was a pre-planned murder.
It is learnt that Hidayat had married thrice. Even after he divorced his first wife Fazila, he allegedly used to visit her home and harass her under the pretext of giving chocolates to her son, police sources said.
Frustrated over the attitude of Hidayat, his first wife’s kin decided to teach him a lesson. They hatched a plan and hired his auto-rickshaw on August 28, took him to a deserted place and brutally attacked him with stones and sticks.
Under the direction of Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Murugan and guidance of DCPs Shantaraj and Sanjeev Patil and ACP Kalyan Shetty, the investigation was carried out by Ullal police led by Inspector Savitra Tej and SI Bharati.
