Mangaluru, Oct 3: Amidst concerns of absence of members consecutively during committee meetings held by the Dakshina Kannada district unit of Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), a four-member sub committee was formed to prepare an action plan for 3 years to revive the organisation, at the annual general body meeting on Friday.
The annual general meeting (AGM) was held in the presence of Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner and president of the IRCS district unit A B Ibrahim, at the Conference Hall in his office here.
Commending the work of the existing governing body, Mr Ibrahim said that more work needs to be done in the coming days. He urged them to have a vision and agenda for the next three years.
Four members - Dr G K Bhat, Dinesh Rao, Venu Sharma and Sylvester D'Souza - were included in the sub-committee formed to prepare a road map for the ICRS unit with a vision for the next three years.
It was decided in the AGM to conduct the election of members of the executive committee on November 1. It was also decided to conduct the annual general meeting yearly on October 2 to avoid confusion regarding early intimation of dates to other IRCS members.
The general report on the ICRS and its activities in the district during the year was read out in the meeting.
On deciding whether a Help Desk pertaining to the Red Cross Blood Bank was necessary at the Lady Goschen Hospital, it was pointed out that a Help Desk was essential to provide proper information to several unaware patients hailing from rural areas from Dakshina Kannada and other districts.
It was informed that an exclusive website has been created, where updates on the upcoming activities of the ICRS unit and details of upcoming meetings would be updated so that members would be informed of the same.
It was brought to the notice of the president of the ICRS unit that provision of blood units to BPL and APL patients at Lady Goschen and Wenlock hospitals free of cost without taking replacements, was leading to losses for the ICRS Blood Bank. Suggestions were made by members to charge around 50 percent of the rate fixed by the government or a nominal fee for the blood units, which would reimburse the expenditure incurred by the Blood Bank.
Additional Deputy Commissioner and vice president of ICRS district unit Kumar, chairman Prabhakar Shriyan, vice chairman Ronald Fernandes, secretary K V Nagaraj were present on the occasion, apart from several ICRS members.
