The coastal region of Karnataka, including Dakshina Kannada and Mangaluru, is a multi-lingual zone where several local languages were practiced. When the Tulu Sahitya Academy was established, Tulu, the most popular language locally, got the capacity to stand on its own among other regional languages. After the Beary Academy was established, Beary language received capability, support and strength and research books and debates on its origin and development cropped up. This kind of research and celebration of the language is a joyous thing, he said.
He said that amidst the growth of Konkani and Beary languages and culture, the languages developed an identity of their own. It is not possible for languages to perish as long as there are people using it. Larger and proper usage of the language will allow the language and its culture to grow, he told the gathering.
