Lucknow, Oct 7: A week after Mohammad Akhlaq was lynched by a communal mob after falsely accusing him of beef consumption, one of the accused was found dead on Tuesday in the tense Bisara village in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh.
Activists of communal outfits in the village came out on the streets after Prakash’s body was found, accusing the police of harassment, adding fresh fuel to an already tense situation.
“The youths of the village are living in fear...they are being harassed by the police,” alleged a Sangh Parivar activist in Bisara.
The miscreants resorted to violent protest against the police’s alleged one-sided action in the wake of Akhlaq’s death and vented ire on politicians and media personnel who visited the village and Akhlaq’s family.
Meanwhile, the district administration on Tuesday registered cases against five people, including Union minister Mahesh Sharma, BJP legislator Sangeet Som and BSP leader Naseemuddin Siddiqui, for violation of prohibitory orders. Omji Maharaj of the Hindu Raksha Dal and one Parvez were the other two.
Sharma termed the lynching as an “accident”, caused by a “misunderstanding” while Som delivered a provocative speech at Bisara a few days ago.
The local police, in its report to the administration, said all these leaders had visited Bisara village with their entourage despite the fact that Section 144 of the CrPC was in force there.
