Mangaluru, Oct 9: Violent protests erupted in relatively peaceful town of Moodbidri in Dakshina Kannada district within hours after the brutal murder of a Sangh Parivar activist on Friday.
Hundreds of activists and Vishva Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal and other Hindutva fringe groups took to the streets raising provocative slogans and warning of retaliation against at community for the crime committed by a few unidentified miscreants.
An undeclared bandh prevailed in the town as the agitators forced to shut down shops in the morning and some others hesitated to open their shops.
Hundreds of passengers and regular commuters were also stranded as the public transport came to a grinding halt after the incident. Private buses remained off the road in the town fearing attack.
Unconfirmed sources said that a couple of journalists covering the violent protests were also attacked by the mob.
The trouble began after a gang of unidentified miscreants brutally murdered Prashant, 29, a Bajrang Dal leader in Moodbidri. More details are awiaed.
