Bengaluru, Nov 28: In his reply to the Legislative Council on the law and order situation in State, Home Minister G. Parameshwara on Friday was non-committal on what resulted in the death of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) activist D. Kuttappa during the communal violence following protests against Tipu Jayanti celebrations in Madikeri on November 10.
While some Ministers had claimed that Kuttappa had fallen off a building, resulting in his death, the BJP had claimed he was killed in stone-pelting.
Although Kuttappa was immediately shifted to the district hospital and given treatment by the medical officer, he succumbed to his injuries. Following a complaint by Kuttappa’s son, five persons were arrested and they had been remanded in judicial custody. Investigation was under way, the Minister’s statement said.
The statement said five jammers and metal detectors had been installed in Mangaluru jail where two inmates were killed in a clash.
From January 2014 to October 2015, a total of 2,721 child abduction cases, and 2,099 chain-snatching cases were reported in the State. Six “moral policing” cases were reported during the period in Dakshina Kannada.
