Mangaluru, May 2: The City Crime Branch of Mangaluru Police have arrested three more accused in connection with the recent spate of violence in communally sensitive Ullal region of the taluk.
The arrested are:
1)Rahul Poojary (22), a resident of Mogaveerapatna, a fisherman by profession.
2)Prajwal alias Hemachandra (21), a resident of Amblamogaru, an auto-rickshaw driver by profession.
3)Vineeth (22), a resident of Thokkottu, who is into fabrication work.
Mangaluru City Police Commissioner M Chandra Sekhar told media persons on Monday that Rahul Poojary is one of the masterminds of the recent violence in Ullal and a prime accused in four assault cases. He said that the cops are trying to ascertain the role of each and every arrested individual in the assault spree.
The top cop said that all three are habitual offenders. While Rahul Poojary is accused in five more attempt-to-murder cases in Ullal and Mangaluru, Prajwal was facing two attempt-to-murder cases. Prajwal and Vineeth had directly involved in the attack on Safwan at Kallapu Patna on April 26, he said.
The operation to nab the accused was led by CCB inspector Valentine D'Souza, assisted by PSI Shyamsunder and other personnel.
With these arrests that the total number of persons nabbed in connection with recent stabbing incidents occurred under the limits of Ullal police station, has gone up to eight.
Police have already arrested Shivaraj alias Shiva (19), Rahul alias Back Rahul (20), Pavanraj, Edwin Rahul D'Souza alias Pucche Rahul and Karthik (19), all residents of Ullal and surrounding places.
Mr Chnadra Sekhara said that in order to maintain law and order and to thwart the conspiracies of trouble mongers, the prohibitory orders under Section 144 was extended in Ullal till May 6.
