Bengaluru, Sep 30: Moderate rains continued to lash parts of Karnataka on Friday. The water level in the Cauvery basin reservoirs too has gone up slightly after parts of Mandya, Ramanagaram and Mysuru district received good showers for past two days.
Weather forecast by the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNMDC) is that these districts may continue to get rains today. This would help in increased baseline water flow to the Mettur dam in Tamil Nadu.
The combined water level in the four Cauvery basin dams in the state was 32.08 tmcft as on Thursday evening. It was 31.29 tmcft on Wednesday. On September 23, when the Karnataka legislature passed a resolution not to further release water to Tamil Nadu, the combined water level in the four dams was 27.6 tmcft.
Heavy rain lashed the twin cities of Hubballi-Dharwad for more than half-an-hour on Thursday afternoon, throwing normal life out of gear.
At several places drains overflowed, inundating roads. Traffic was disrupted on the busy roads in the twin cities. Rainwater gushed into some houses in low-lying areas.
There was traffic jam on the busy Pune-Bengaluru Road for some time. Heavy rains lashed Belagavi city and surrounding places for over two hours on Thursday evening.
Clogged stormwater drains resulted in the roads being flooded in the city. Showers continued to hit normal life in Kalaburagi. It rained in the city between 6.15 pm and 6.40 pm.
Madikeri and surrounding areas received moderate rains on Thursday evening.
The state government has released Rs 50 crore and Rs 25 crore to Bidar and Kalaburagi districts, respectively. There were floods in the two districts early this week and last week.
