Managluru, Oct 20: Vaishnav Hegde, an ace swimmer from Puttur Aquatic Club, bagged a gold for India in the 50m breastroke at the South Asian Aquatic Championship (SAAC) in Colombo, on Wednesday.
This SAAC swim championship has top swimmers from SAARC nations. Vaishnav clocked 29.31 to clinch the gold. Jashandeep Singh of India who clocked 29.60, bagged second and third was Kiran Jayasinghe from Sri Lanka.
Vaishnav qualified for this event by winning the silver in the 70th Glenmark national swimming championship held at Ranchi last month.
Vaishnav is also the youngest among 10 swimmers from India who met the qualifying standards for the Asian Swimming Championship to be held in Tokyo in November.
Vaishnav trains with Puttur Aquatic Club and Balavana swimming pool Puttur. Vaishnav is also the youngest swimmer with the 3rd highest FINA points (world swim ranking point system) in India with 766 points for his 50m breastroke.
