Mangaluru, Dec 9: Mohammad Azharuddin, former captain of the Indian national cricket team, will inaugurate the third edition of Mangalore Premiere League on December 17 at Dr B R Ambedkar Stadium in Panambur on the outskirts of the city.
Announcing this at a press meet Sirajuddin, the chairman of Karnataka Regional Cricket Academy, the organiser of the tournament, said that the stadium was ready for the MPL-2016 with natural turf outfield and astro turf pitch.
As many as 12 teams are participating in the tournament scheduled to be held between December 17 and 30 this year. For floodlight matches as many as eight 60ft high lighting towers are being installed at the ground, he said.
The tournament will be formally inaugurated at 4:30 p.m. by the former skipper in the presence of a galaxy of dignitaries including sponsors of the event Zakaria Jokatte, Sharif BM and Ismail Realtech, he said.
As part of the entertainment programme, Russian fire dance will be staged. A dance performed at the Hip Hop Dance Championship at Las Vegas will be staged by Blitz dance group of Manipal University. Besides, there will be laser show, dragon dance, tall man show, fire work etc.
After inaugural ceremony, an exhibition match will be played between the team of Tulu Cine stars and team of MPL organisers, he said. Imthiyaz and Goutham Shetty from MPL organising team were present at the press meet.
