Mangaluru, May 22: Dakshina Kannada district in charge minister B Ramanath Rai on Monday released Beary Kaavya Samputa, an anthology of poems written by 100 Beary poets and published by Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy in the city.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Rai said the presence of 100 Beary poets is a proof for the richness of the dialect. Calling upon the young Bearys to engage in literary activities, he said that literature contributes to the growth of a language.
“There is enormous scope for the growth of Beary language and literature. This dialect can produce thousand poets in days to come,” he said.
Stating that the state government is committed to promote Beary language and culture, he said that funds for the construction of Beary Sahitya Bhavan at Baithurli of Kudupi village will soon be released.
Ivan D’Souza, chief whip of government in Legislative Council, Inaugurated the stage programme. B A Mohammed Haneef, president of the Academy, presided over.
Rahim Uchil, former president of the Academy, B A Mohammed Ali, Mohammed Baddoor and B A Shamsuddin, all Beary writers, were among the guests.
Writer Peruru Jaru received the first copy of the newly released book. Journalist Hamza Malar introduced the book to the audience.
