Bangalore, Jan 21: Five people were killed in three accidents in the city since late Saturday night.
Three persons were killed and two injured when their speeding multi-utility vehicle (MUV) rammed barricades erected by police near Neralur Gate, on Hosur Road, around 11.30 pm.
Attibele police officials said that six friends were travelling in a Toyota Innova. They had gone to a roadside eatery near Hosur for a party and had consumed alcohol, police said. While returning to the city, the driver lost control over the speeding vehicle and hit the barricades erected by police for checking and cutting speed. The MUV went on to hit an electric pole, before it turned turtle.
Krishna, 24, who was driving the MUV, died on the spot, while Indresh (22) and Shivu (27) who sustained severe injuries were rushed to a private hospital where they were declared brought dead.
Praveen and Naveen, who also sustained injuries in the accident, were admitted to a private hospital in HSR Layout. Praveen is said to be out of danger while Naveen is said to be critical. Mahesh managed to escape unscathed in the accident.
"Krishna, a native of Sakleshpur, was employed as a cab driver with a private travel agency. His other friends did odd jobs with small companies," police said.
The bodies have been taken to Victoria Hospital for post-mortem.
Pedestrian run over
In another accident, a 50-year-old pedestrian was killed when an earthmover hit her accidentally on Sadahalli Road in Devanahalli Airport police station limits on Saturday night.
The body of Muniyamma, a resident of Sadahalli, was spotted by passersby following which the family was informed. A complaint was filed by her son Subhramanya with the police.
Police have seized the vehicle which had been abandoned at the spot. The driver is said to be absconding.
BMTC bus mows down biker
A 25-year-old employee of a private firm was run over by a BMTC bus on Banashankari 46th cross in Jayanagar traffic police limits on Sunday morning.
The deceased, Mahadesha, was riding his motorcycle when the bus overtook his vehicle and swerved to the left, brushing against his two-wheeler.
Mahadesha fell on the road and came under the rear wheel of the bus. He was killed on the spot.
