Taking Photographs Of Anything With A Head/Face Is Forbidden In Islaam

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The image is the head; if the head is cut off, there is no image.” Narrated by al-Ismaa’eeli in his Mu’jam from the hadeeth of Ibn ‘Abbaas and classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in al-Silsilah al-Saheehah no. 1921 and in Saheeh al-Jaami’ no. 3864.

Narrated Said bin Abu Al-Hasan (may Allaah be pleased with him): While I was with Ibn 'Abbas a man came and said, "O father of 'Abbas! My sustenance is from my manual profession and I make these pictures." Ibn 'Abbas said, "I will tell you only what I heard from Allah's Apostle (may Allaah's peace and blessing be upon him) . I heard him (may Allaah's peace and blessing be upon him) saying, 'Whoever makes a picture will be punished by Allah till he puts life in it, and he will never be able to put life in it.' " Hearing this, that man heaved a sigh and his face turned pale.

Ibn 'Abbas said to him, "What a pity! If you insist on making pictures I advise you to make pictures of trees and any other unanimated objects.

[Bukhari 3:428]

"On the Day of Resurrection a neck will stretch forth from Hell; it will have two eyes to see, two ears to hear, and a tongue to speak. It will say, "I have been appointed to take care of three types of people: every arrogant tyrant, every person who called on some deity other than Allaah (swt) and those who made pictures"

[at-Tirmidhi stated that this hadith was saheeh - at-Takhweef min an-Naar, p.179, See also Jaami' al-Usool, 10/518, the editor said its isnaad is hasan]

"I fear one day the salafis will say, photography is not imaging, you just press a button" {Sheikh al-albaani, fee silsilah alhuda wan nur 393}.

We think it is prohibited in islam to draw pictures of living things except plants and nature. The photos or videos are not pictures. They are reflections of the real objects.that makes the difference.above all,it is the intention that matters.

Allah (SWT) knows best - Subhanallah!
These days Quran and Hadith has become an Islamic shield for many muslims only when it meets their requirement. When Quran & Hadith go against their need, then they don't follow Quran & Hadith - they just go in whatever way they like - Astagfirullah!
Quran & Hadith is not to follow partially. If it is authenticate, then why people are so hyprocite in following Islam as per their own created ways.
Its time to eradicate the differences and claiming that we are the Best & Perfect Muslims in the region. Let Allah (SWT) decide who is best & who is perfect. Our basic need and requirement is to follow only QURAN & HADITH and nothing else. In this planet, the groupism had spoiled the beauty of Islam and its importance. I humbly request all the ULEMA to create a common platform with best of understanding and harmony to give ISLAM a destination for those who had lost their way towards Islam due to groupism and misunderstanding created to claim a particular group as a BEST & AUTHENTIC. May ALLAH (SWT) bring Peace and Harmony in our Religion by fearing Allah (SWT) - Aameen!

Ash-Shaykh al-Fawzaan on filming lectures
Posted: May 5th, 2006
Author: Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzaan

Ash-Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzaan was asked as is in tape number 59 of the explanation of Kitaab At-Tawheed and as is posted on Sahab.net:

The Question: What is the ruling of filming the lectures and conferences on the video camera for da’wah in the lands of Islaam?

The Answer: The da’wah from the time of the Prophets (عليهم الصلاة و السلام), it has existed and picture making has not been used for it. So there is no need for picture making. There is no need for picture making. The da’wah exists without picture making and something forbidden is not to be used for the purpose of da’wah. Na’am.

Question: Fadeelah Ash-Shaykh, do the pictures that appear on the television enter into this ruling?

The Answer: What removes it from this ruling? They are pictures. They are called pictures. What removes it from this? When they are on the television do we single them out (of the ruling)? We don’t single them out. No. They are severe pictures because they are in motion, pictures in motion. They are pictures. Also they remain in these films. They remain tens of years and hundreds of years. They are not like the picture which is in the mirror, an image that appears and goes away. No. This is a lasting picture. It remains and is used every time its use in wanted even after years, tens of years. Na’am.

Dear Althaf,
We have to understand the Quran and sunnha according to the way of salaf, not according to our own will, and for your kind information above hadeeth which i quoted response to the question regarding photo by group of scholars from Saudia. You can find this same answer in alifta fatwa site.

Dear Brothers,

Hope you might have read below hadeeth:

on the authority of Ibn `Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), who said that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, Those who make these pictures will be punished on the Day of Resurrection and it will be said to them, ‘Give life to what you created.’ Recorded by Al-Bukhary and Muslim
