Indian Wells, Mar 12: Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza and her Swiss partner Martina Hingis produced a superior performance to progress through to the second round of the women's doubles event of the Indian Wells tournament in California on Saturday.

The top-ranked pair claimed a 6-3, 7-5 win over Australian duo of Casey Dellacqua and Samantha Stosur in the opening round contest that lasted one hour and eight minutes.

The Indo-Swiss pair's 41-match winning streak came to a halt after they were beaten in the quarter-finals of the Qatar Open last month. They would have matched Natasha Zvereva of Belarus and Czech Jana Novotna's 1990 mark of 44 consecutive wins if the world number women's doubles pair had won the Qatar event.
